Modern Hollywood. Hopeful up-and-coming actors attend countless auditions in the hope of landing iconic roles, hoping to be noticed and given the attention they believe they deserve. While these auditions happen, big-name stars turn down role after role because they only have so many hours in the day and can only commit to so many projects at a time. Once an actor has achieved star status, they have the luxury of sifting through the films and opportunities they are presented with and picking and choosing only what appeals to them. However, it’s incredibly difficult to gauge a movie’s potential success or failure during the initial stages of production. A movie lives or dies by its casting, but sometimes other factors turn what looks like a flop into a smash hit. A star might turn down a part for a variety of reasons, including disliking their character, dissatisfaction with their proposed salary, confusion about the plot, or even simply because they can’t be bothered.
